Encouraged by saints to lead the battle against the English to end the hundred-year war, Joan of Arc kneels in prayer with a forlorn look, contemplating heaven. The patron Saint of France is wearing Gothic armor and chainmail, holding a sword in both hands indicating she is ready for battle, and wearing a red skirt for courage. A powerful Medieval theme, skillfully martyred Joan is glowing in the gleaming highlights of Millais' remarkable skill. At eleven Millias was the youngest student to enter the Royal Academy Schools, and was one of the founding members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Embracing historical, literary and naturalist themes, in his later works, Millais, added his own brand of realism and used his family as models, selling the images to calendars and advertisements. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. This replica European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.
