I never put a mattress in it. I used it to transport balloons, and it worked well. The bag is huge, so a lot of balloons fit without being crushed. The zipper closed all the way and stayed closed. Love this protector, with it being an encasement one it makes it easy to wash. As the top is the only thing you have to take off.
