Hanukkah Donut Decorating Party

Our playful, hands-on spin on a holiday favorite.

For a fun play on a traditional holiday treat (gooey jelly-filled the sufganiyot) throw a donut decorating party using an assortment of doughy delights and candy coatings. Whether you make them yourself or pick up from a local bakery, kids will love dressing up some yummy donuts this holiday.

Set the kids up at a table covered with butcher paper or a tablecloth (to make cleanup easy) and let them get to work. Sprinkles in shades of blue are perfect for Hanukkah, but other colors are just as fun!

Tip!  To cut down on sugar intake, we suggest having the little ones decorate donut holes instead of full donuts.

Hanukkah Decorated Donuts

Ingredients

2 dozen donuts or donut holes
1 cup blue and gold sprinkles
1/2 cup blue and white candy pearls

Donut Glaze:
1/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar

Directions

Whip up a simple glaze to get sprinkles and toppings to stick to your donuts. Combine milk and vanilla in a saucepan over medium to low heat until warm. Slowly add powdered sugar and whisk until combined. Let cool for 5 minutes and then place into frosting bags or plastic bags.

Using the glaze, have children fully frost or draw a variety of Hanukkah favorites (a dreidel, menorah, or the Star of David) onto their donuts.

Finish with sprinkles, candy pearls, and remaining powdered sugar.

Tip!  For a more traditional take, grab an assortment of jelly-filled donut holes and decorate with powdered sugar (don't forget to glaze first, or it won't stick!).
