When you think of Passover, you don't necessarily think "delicious food." Jewish tradition dictates that you don't eat products made with leavened grains during this holiday. That means no cookies, no cake, and definitely no pizza. As a result, you have to get creative to find ways to make your favorite foods Passover-friendly. Enter matzah pizza!

While most people take a piece of pre-made matzah, slather on some sauce, top with cheese and pop in the oven, I find this not to be the best method. You see, when you put this type of matzah pizza in the oven, the matzah, which has already been cooked to a perfectly crisp, cracker-like texture, is bound to get overcooked and burn.

That's why my mom, with all her Jewish cooking wisdom, created a deconstructed matzah pizza that's as fun to eat as it is delicious. Instead of putting the matzah back into the oven, you create a sauce and cheese dip to be enjoyed with matzah strips. It's super easy to make and customize. Plus, it's so good, you may find yourself eating it year round!

Deconstructed Matzah Pizza

Your favorite sauce (Either homemade - I like this recipe - or from a jar works.)
Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Basil, shredded
1 sheet of matzah, broken into strips
1 clove of garlic, minced (optional)
1/4 white onion, minced (optional)

Heat up the marinara sauce on the stove and ladle into bowl when hot. For extra flavor, mince garlic and onion and mix into the sauce while heating.

While sauce is still hot, top with a handful of shredded cheese. Garnish with basil.

Mix together the ingredients so the cheese melts into sauce. Serve with matzah strips.

If you want to get even more creative, add some sauteed spinach, mushrooms, olives, or any other traditional pizza topping to the mix.
