Smart Seating

For small spaces, opt for bistro or conversation sets. These long-lasting options are sturdy, durable, and come in many sizes—not to mention options for number of seats. Let the size of your patio or deck determine how many seats you choose. Check the dimensions of the furniture against your outdoor area; a good rule of thumb is to leave about 18 inches of space around tables, so guests can move around easily.

Think outside the box—garden stools take up little space and double as seating and table space. Add cushions and pillows for style and comfort.

Tip! You can always add cushions and pillows for style and comfort.

Illuminate the Night

Keep the party going even after the sun goes down. No matter your style or preference, candles, twinkling sting lights, or overhead chandeliers all add ambiance and a glow to any outdoor party. If installing a fixture or lighting candles isn't possible, try battery-operated candles in festive holders.

Tip! Citronella candles are ideal to bring ambiance and keep bugs away.

Combat the Elements

For sunnier days, ensure guests are comfortable by having an umbrella ready to pop up in case direct sunlight gets too hot.

If it happens to be windy on the day of your party, forgo tablecloths and tall centerpieces. Choose weightier outdoor dinnerware (think melamine instead of paper plates) and don't set the table before guests arrive. Stack items closer to the house, and hold napkins down with napkin rings.

Tip! Keep a few throw blankets nearby to warm guests after the sun sets.

Stock a Food Cart

Stock a bar cart or console table with essentials to avoid running back inside for items that you forgot. This also helps not to clutter the table before the party even starts. Some of our go-to items are napkins, glasses, plates, cutlery, ice, condiments, and beverages.

Use trays to gather items that go together, like beverages and garnishes or condiments and burger buns. Wait to bring cold foods out until you are ready to serve. For items that need to remain cold, serve in a dish over a larger ice-filled dish.

Tip! Sprinkle kosher salt over ice to slow melting.
