The Seattle Central Library redefined the perception of libraries – long cast as institutions where the purpose is foremost and aesthetic is an afterthought. The Bellevue, too, celebrates the design of the bathtub as an art piece in itself. The Bellevue’s sleek angles recall the shape of a gemstone while creating depth for optimal relaxation. Inspired by the library’s high-art approach, we asked ourselves – what better place to read a masterpiece than in a masterpiece? Designed by Architects Rem Koolhaas and Joshua Prince-Ramus, the Seattle Central Library’s reflective glass exterior is crosshatched by steel, giving the façade a nearly mesh-like appearance. The library’s 11 floors are arranged into platforms that slant and rise, forming the building’s unique asymmetrical shape.
