• About
In the 1970s, Paul, Edmund, Alex, and Steven Peykar first became involved in the carpet and area rug business at the retail level, operating a store in Westbury, Long Island. Those years provided the brothers with truly invaluable experience in understanding the needs and supply and merchandising issues that confronted retailers who depended on traditional importers and replenishment strategies.
Together, in 1980, the Peykars took these insights and began to turn them into an outstanding success in a wholesale operation with a new and highly focused business philosophy. Initially, the company was called Noury and Sons, in honor of the family patriarch, Noury Peykar. At that time, the Peykars saw a promising future in wholesale because they were able to bring in large assortments of rugs that had not been readily available before. They sought to create new merchandising possibilities with truly programmed handmade collections. Their strategy was to address the retailer's most vital concern - always having the right rug, in the right color and design, when they needed it. The new company worked on the assumption that delivery was going to be the foundation of long term success.
Known today as , the company that the Peykars founded in 1980 is now the world's leading and most diversified producer and importer of handmade area rugs. Recognized throughout the home fashion community for the range and exemplary quality of its assortments, the company has achieved a conspicuous leadership position in the market through an aggressively innovative approach to product development. ''Our strategy is simple and consistent,'' observes Alex Peykar. ''We look at the market to see what other companies are doing, and then we do something different - we focus on creating new opportunities.''
At present, supplies more than sixty distinctive collections to prominent retailers and design houses throughout the world. From classic Tibetan weaves to hand-knotted wool and silk Chinese carpets, from museum quality flatweaves to sumptuously hand-finished power loom designs, rugs offer a unique combination of beauty, craftsmanship, and value in virtually every price and construction category. Most recently, the company has introduced several collections of luxury broadloom, which have been enthusiastically received by retailers and consumers throughout the United States.
