This 100-inch long late 19th-century dark brown altar table with the hand-carved scrolling clouds spandrels is a striking console table in a large living room, dining room, or hallway. This altar table with a dark brown color was made around the 19th century by a craftsman from Hebei province. The scrolling clouds spandrels are one of the traditional Chinese spandrel carving designs. Nice patinas enhance the beauty and antiquity of this Chinese long console table. Those types of long narrow tables with everted flanges were usually placed in the formal central hall of a traditional Chinese house. It was frequently positioned against the back wall of the main hall under the hanging painting of ancestors. The food, flowers, and incense were placed on the table for the ancestors to protect the residents.
