Distressed feel to the wood in a soft charcoal color. The plexiglass is good quality, not thin and easily scratched. BOTH sides are protected by the blue adhesive which peels off easily. First things first, the frame does seem to be constructed of wood but the 'wood grain' finish is a veneer. If you're hoping for a raw wood look this may not be the frame you want. That being said, it is a very well-constructed frame and I was so thrilled to get it in a size that's otherwise difficult to find (6"x6"). Acrylic really does have superior clarity when compared to glass - it will scratch much more easily, of course, but so long as the frame isn't in a high-traffic spot that really shouldn't be an issue.. The product is nice, but when I first ordered, I had ordered a set of 5. I first received one frame only. I called and spoke with customer service and they reordered me another set of 5. I again received only one frame. I called customer service again and finally they sent me three more. The frames are nice, but the hassle isn’t.
