Brown Medium Live Plants

The Calathea Makoyana or Peacock Plant as it is more commonly known is a wonderful plant that can be known to grow up to 2ft in height when cared for correctly. Also named Cathedral Windows. With its somewhat tropical origins, The Peacock Plant is a tall, slender plant that with the right care can become a colorful house plant for your collection. Due to its Brazilian roots, humidity is best for this particular plant and it loves nothing more than to be misted although it is important to use distilled or rain water as the fluoride can cause damage to the delicate leaves. The Peacock plant has all the elegance and beauty of a Peacocks tail, which is why it has been given its rather glorious name. The leaves are pale green with a dark green feathered effect from the middle of the leaf to the outer edges.

The 'Prolific' Kiwi Fruit Tree (Actinidia deliciosa) is a vigorous, fast-growing deciduous vine prized for its attractive foliage and abundant yields of delicious, fuzzy brown fruit. This variety is aptly named for its ability to produce large crops of flavorful kiwis when grown under proper conditions and with a compatible pollinator nearby. The fruits have a sweet-tart flavor and vibrant green flesh, making them a refreshing treat straight from the vine. The plant features lush, broad, heart-shaped leaves that provide ornamental value throughout the growing season. 'Prolific' kiwi vines can be trained on arbors, trellises, or fences, offering both beauty and bounty to the garden. This variety is best suited for temperate climates with warm summers and mild winters and can thrive in USDA Zones 79. With the right structural support and consistent care, the 'Prolific' kiwi vine becomes a standout addition to edible landscapes or backyard orchards. It's not only productive but also attractive, turning any sunny space into a vibrant, fruitful oasis. Ideal for gardeners seeking both ornamental charm and homegrown fruit, this variety rewards patience with bountiful harvests in just a few years after planting.

The common characteristics of this plant include a bulbous trunk, which is used to store water, and its long, hair-like leaves that grow from the top of the trunk like a ponytail, giving the plant its renowned name. A ponytail palm tree needs bright light, but because it is such a forgiving plant, it will be okay if you give it bright light about half the time. In fact, if you keep it in low light conditions half the year and provide bright light conditions the other half the year, it will be perfectly happy. This means that as long as you place it outdoors in the summer, it will tolerate any indoor light conditions you keep it in during the winter. In its native environment (eastern Mexico), the entire plant has been known to reach up to 30 feet in height! However, ponytail palms that are grown in gardens as landscape plants dont usually get to be more than 10 feet tall. Kept indoors, they are rarely taller than 4 feet. As desert-natives, ponytail palms dont need much humidity, but placement near a draft or vent should be avoided as it may dry out the foliage. Use a fast draining soil, such as a cacti and succulent potting mix. If you have potting soil, sand, and perlite already on hand, you can create your own desert soil mixture: Simply mix 1 part potting soil, 1 part perlite, and 1 part sand.

The Tamarind Tree (Tamarindus Indica) also known as the Sampaloc Tree, is a tropical, evergreen tree native to Africa, renowned for its sweet and tangy fruit. This tree can grow up to 80 feet tall, featuring a dense canopy of feathery, bright green foliage that provides ample shade. Its unique, pod-like fruits contain a sour pulp used in culinary dishes across the world. The tamarind tree is highly adaptable and can thrive in a variety of environments, making it an excellent addition to both ornamental and functional gardens. It is known for its ability to withstand drought once established, making it a low-maintenance option for those living in hot, dry climates. Besides its culinary uses, tamarind pulp is also used in traditional medicine for its digestive benefits. As the tree matures, it produces a fragrant yellowish-white flower that later gives way to the distinctive brown pods. Tamarind trees are a popular choice for backyard orchards or large estates due to their attractive, spreading shape and the fact that they provide fruit over several months. They are especially beloved in tropical regions but can also be grown in subtropical and warm temperate areas. The tree is ideal for growing in well-drained soil and thrives with a lot of sunlight. It requires minimal care once established, making it a perfect choice for beginners who want to grow a productive fruit tree.

This native to west Africa is grown indoors for it's attractive semi-lobed and oval shaped leaves, which all seem to grow to different sizes. The name fiddle given to this plant comes from its kind of fiddle shaped leaves. This ficus is a slow growing plant that may take up to 10 -15 years to reach full maturity, but after 3 or 4 years of growth it starts to become an attractive tree like ornamental house plant. The leaves have prominent veins through the center and from the center to the edge of the leaves. These leaves have a glossy appearance and grow up to 12 inches long and 5 inches or more wide. These grow well in greenhouses and conservatories because they enjoy high lighting conditions. They're the type of plant that looks great near doorways, hallways, fireplaces and other featured parts of a room, although enough light will need to be provided - wherever they are seated. It is a popular ornamental tree in subtropical and tropical gardens, and is also grown as a houseplant in temperate areas, where it usually stays shorter and fails to flower or fruit. It requires indirect natural light.

Calatheas are beautiful house plants grown for their stunning foliage. The top sides of the leaves look as if they have been painted with beautiful brushstrokes they're often intricately patterned, in many shades of green. The undersides of the leaves are often burgundy red. This striking foliage has earned calatheas several nicknames, including the peacock plant, cathedral window plant, zebra plant and rattlesnake plant. Calatheas are also sometimes called the prayer plant as they are closely related to the maranta plant, also known as the prayer plant. However unlike marantas, they do not close their leaves up at night. Many calathea varieties have recently been moved into the genus Goeppertia, so you may now find them being sold under this name. The light requirements make this plant an attractive choice for lower-light homes, but please note: These plants do poorly in direct sun, which can bleach the leaves. Place your prayer plant in a part of a room that receives low to bright indirect light. As a rule, the darker the foliagesuch as with the calathea ornatathe lower the light requirements. Like all houseplants, calathea enjoy filtered or dechlorinated water and can be a little more demanding than other houseplants. Simply fill your watering can and leave it overnight to dissipate the chlorine. If there are other chemicals in your tap water, try using filtered or distilled water instead. Prayer plants enjoy a humid environment, but many varieties can handle lower levels of humidity. Ideally, they prefer a humidity level of 50 percent or more, with more sensitive varieties requiring higher humidity levelsaround 60 percent.

Mass cane (Dracaena fragrans Massangeana or Dracaena fragrans) is also known as corn plant and is one of several popular varieties of Dracaena, including Dracaena lisa, Dracaena marginata, and Dracaena compacta. It has stalky stems and long, green leaves with light-yellowlight-green stripes running through them. It is an easy-to-grow houseplant that requires little maintenance (and even puts up with neglect), making it a great choice for beginners. Although originally from Africa, the mass cane is popular throughout many homes and offices in the U.S. and the U.K. because it is a low-maintenance beauty. For those who are lucky enough, the corn plant may even produce clusters of fragrant white flowers, though this is very rare. Growing the dracaena as indoor plants using different cane lengths, with each cane having sprouted a new head or heads of foliage, makes Dracaena fragrans excellent as a tall indoor specimen. Like all plants, the corn plant produces oxygen and makes the air in your home healthier for all of your family. However, the corn plant is especially good for improving air quality, as it also absorbs toxins. The NASA Clean Air Study found that Dracaena plants remove toxic substances from the air, including formaldehyde, xylene, benzene, and trichloroethylene The corn plant is slow growing, so it does not need frequent pruning or maintenance. The slow growth also means it will act as an ornament in your home, happily filling a space where it can remain for some time without becoming too big for the area.

Cherry trees generally start bearing fruit in their fourth year; dwarf trees bear fruit a year earlier. One mature, standard-size tart or sweet cherry tree will produce 30 to 50 quarts of cherries each year; a dwarf tree, about 10 to 15 quarts. Plant cherry trees in early spring or late fall (when the ground is soft and has a higher moisture content) in a sunny site with good air circulation and deep, well-drained soil. Apply mulch and water well. After flowering in a fruiting year, youll need to drape trees with wildlife-safe netting to protect the fruit from birds. Plant in a sunny site with good air circulation; avoid planting near trees or buildings that shade. For cherry trees, however, they can mostly survive for weeks without water. However, keep in mind that the soil dries up faster when it is hot or windy. Maintain the soil by using a soaker hose around the tree for deep watering. Organic mulch can also help maintain soil moisture. Keep your tree healthy and fruitful by balancing the top growth of your tree through pruning. Pruning is the process of cutting away dead branches or stems. This is also important to keep the shape of your beautiful cherry tree.

Adenium desert rose plants are perfect specimens for the intrepid or novice gardener. These East African and Arabian natives are wonderful in the interior container garden or as warm climate additions to the patio display. Caring for desert rose plants requires a full sun location and well-drained soil. Properly mimicking their native regional conditions will garner plenty of rose-like blooms on an architectural marvel of a plant. Desert rose is a low-maintenance succulent that produces dozens of trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of pink, rose, or white in the summer. Like many succulents, it needs conditions that are bright, warm, and dry. Desert rose (Adenium obesum) and its many hybrids are often seen in retail garden centers. Flowers average in diameter and may be single, double, or even triple. To maintain the profuse flowering, the plants must six hours or more of bright light each day. Desert rose makes a dramatic specimen for a deck or patio but since it's sensitive to temperatures below 40 degrees, its usually grown in containers that can be brought inside for winter. South Florida gardeners can grow this as a small shrub.

It is a tropical tree which makes a fine addition to a South Florida gardener's backyard fruit orchard. A native of the West Indies, it is a small, attractive, fast-growing tree that won't reach much more than 12 feet, although it can be kept clipped back to shrub size. It's leaves are small and evergreen, borne densely on rather brittle branches. The branches of some varieties droop; others are quite upright. The bright pink, five-petaled flowers are small but pretty, with the trees blooming mainly from April through October although some blossoms appear year around. Fruiting is from May to November, but again, a few cherries may be picked now and then throughout the winter. Barbados cherry, or acerola, is a large, bushy shrub or small tree that reaches mature heights of about 12 feet (3.5 m.). This attractive shrub produces thick, bright green leaves. Small, pinkish-lavender flowers bloom from spring to fall, and may pop up year round in warmer climates usually after irrigation or a rainfall. Harvest Barbados cherries when the fruit is fully ripe. Wear gloves, though, because the fuzz on the stems and leaves can irritate the skin, especially when the tree is young.

This strain of the Cavendish banana will actually produce fruit at a manageable height of just 3 or less. The bananas will appear often after one year. Container grown bananas can be wintered over in a sunroom, an above freezing garage or cellar. Banana plants grown in a garden can be dug and lifted out of the ground before winter and stored in an above freezing area. The plant will have yellow leaves but the trunk and some of the roots will be alive waiting for the next growing season. This is one way to grow bananas in the north. This method also helps to contain their size so they are manageable. Often Dwarf Banana plants are found growing in parts of Asia for mass cultivation and they are sometimes grown as tall specimen plants in gardens at the back of borders to add a touch of the tropics. These Dwarfs can still easily reach 6ft 2m, so with this in mind a young new plant will live happily on a window ledge for a few years at most but that's it, afterwards the space will have run out and you will need somewhere bigger. They grow quickly when it's warm, rewarding you with one new leaf every week or so, they look truly stunning and unique all the time, adding a tropical interest to any area. If allowed to reach its statuesque proportions, it will dominate in a graceful balanced way that very few houseplants can ever match.

The Alocasia Amazonica Bambino is a striking houseplant it features long leaves with bright veining that are shaped similar to an arrowhead. Alocasia Bambino is native to Southeast Asia. This plant is a dwarf variety of Alocasia and will only reach a height of around 12 when kept indoors. With the proper care this is a fairly easy houseplant to successfully grow indoors. This plant is happiest in an environment that mimics the humid and warm tropical environment that it is native to. Keep the humidity up past 70% for this plant. If you have a bright bathroom, the bambino will happily grow in there and love the humidity from the shower. This is not a drought resistant plant and will not like to dry out between waterings. Try and keep the soil evenly moist and make sure you have it on a regular watering schedule. The soil needs to be loose and well draining. Compact soil mixtures will leave excess moisture sitting around the roots. This can quickly lead to root rot and have dire repercussions for the plant.

A Eugenia plant (Eugenia myrtifolium) is a good choice for a topiary because its small leaves and delicate branches respond well to training and shearing. This plant grows outdoors year-round in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones but can also grow indoors in a container. A Eugenia plant is an Australian evergreen with small, glossy green leaves. Although it can grow into any shape, the plant responds especially well to training as a ball, either a single ball or several balls connected by a central, bare stem. Eugenia is quite resilient and requires little special care when given the right growing conditions. It can grow well in full sun outdoors, but in regions with hot summer sun, a spot that gets full sun for the morning hours, followed by partial shade in the afternoon, is ideal. An outdoor-grown Eugenia topiary thrives in any type of garden soil that's well-drained and does poorly in soil that tends to stay wet for long periods. If your soil is high in clay, adding sand at planting improves its drainage.

Whether you love grapes and want to make them an integral part of your daily diet, juice them for smoothies or can them as jelly, reasons exist outside of the culinary realm that motivate people to grow grapevines, which the Missouri Botanical Garden lists as a high-maintenance plant. With its bright summer leaves, gracefully winding branches and sweet, abundant fruit, a grapevine can provide unparalleled visual interest to a yard. It can also provide screening and shade to a sunny area (like a patio), and last for 30 years or more. No grapevine care routine is complete without training the vine to grow correctly. The vine must be trained to grow upward, so it will need a vertical support like a trellis as well as a sturdy horizontal companion, such as a pergola or arbor. Best grown in deep, loamy, humus-rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Performs well in gravelly loams. Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions, including average garden soils, but must have good drainage. Best sited in a location sheltered from winter winds (preferably a sunny south-facing slope) and well removed from frost pockets. Needs good air circulation. Young growth may be damaged in spring by late frosts.

If you are lucky enough to live in one of the warmer areas of the country, youll enjoy growing crown of thorns outdoors as a small shrub outdoors. Plant crown of thorns in the garden in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zone 10 and above. Sited correctly, the plant offers a mass of delicate blossoms all year round. As with most flowering plants, the better the sun exposure, the more blooms you will get. However, crown of thorns will reliably bloom as long as it gets at least 3 - 4 hours of bright, direct sunlight per day. Outdoors, aim for a spot full sun. Indoors, place your plant in a west or south-facing winter during winter. Apart from being an evergreen plant, Euphorbia Milli can also resist drought. It produces woody, succulent stems up to three feet high. The thorns cover the stems randomly and measure up to an inch long. The bright green leaf bracts grow randomly and slightly sparse. They appear mostly on newer stems and fall away from the older stems. This means you can only find leaves on the youngest and newest portions of the plant.

A set of 3 fall maple stems, each with a height of 30”(76cm), all three fall branches are connected by brown wire, non-detachable, and powered by a shared battery box. The tree is also grown in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, as well as in the warm climates of Florida and California in the United States. The macadamia tree is part of the Protaceae family. Although a slow grower, once the tree begins to bear fruit it continues to produce for years to come. Its foliage is a rich, deep green hue, with oblong blunt-tipped leaves that have spiny, serrated margins. These leaves develop in groupings of three to six, but almost never develop singly. When it flowers, its blossoms grow on long spikes called racemes, each with between a hundred and a hundred and fifty flowers on it. The average tree produces about 2500 flowers in a given flowering season. Trees take seven to ten years before they start to produce harvestable nuts. The tree will grow to a height of between 7-40 feet, although ones used in commercial growing are usually kept short for ease of harvest. Its nuts develop inside a round and hard woody shell. This shell is about five times harder than a hazelnut to crack, and has a whole host of uses on its own.

Use as a specimen, prune to a canopy with age. Suited to containers in colder climates. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy, neat appearance, shear to shape in winter. Its shiny bronzy green new foliage with reddish highlights is quite attractive, and it rarely sets fruit. Large panicles of deep pink flowers are showy in the spring. It looks best with regular pruning to maintain its shape, and regular deep watering to promote healthy growth. It may require regularly scheduled light top-trimming (but not necessarily shearing) of vigorous top shoots to maintain its height below 25'. It is not drought tolerant. Use them for tall screens or as large container subjects; beautiful when espaliered against a fence or wall. Both of the species listed here produce fruit enjoyed by birds, but only that of Eriobotrya japonica is eaten by people.

The Rabbit's Foot Fern is easily recognisable as a fern because of it's fronds (grow upright) that display gauzy or lace like leaflets. The small leaves are attached to kind of wiry stalks that grow from the visible rhizomes. These furry and yellowish brown rhizomes creep over the pot; they are main feature of this species. Although most types of ferns require high humidity, Rabbit Foot Fern is much easier to please as indoor ferns. House plants will thrive with indirect light and average room temperatures. Elegant, lacy fronds create a lush mound of evergreen foliage. The main attraction of this plant, however, are the furry rhizomes that hang over the side of the container. These light-brown, creeping rhizomes are covered with hairs that look like a rabbit's foot. Humidity: Moderate humidity. Hot, dry air will cause frond tips to turn brown. Trim off brown leaf tips and raise humidity around it. Use a cool-mist room humidifier or place pot on a tray of wet pebbles. This fern also loves to be misted. Water: Spring through fall, keep the soil moist, but not soggy. In winter, allow top 1 in (2.5 cm) of soil to dry out between waterings.

Not a true palm, this plant is a living fossil that is technically part conifer and part fern! It is stiff and broad, making a reliable palm-like effect in shaded gardens where space is limited. Ideal in Asian compositions or in a fern grotto. Super in tropical gardens with other foliage plants and hot-colored flowers. Grow as a single specimen and avoid crowding as it destroys its symmetry. Provide porous, loamy, very well-drained soil; avoid heavy, wet soils. Provide some shade in hottest regions. Water deeply, regularly in first few growing seasons to establish root system; take care not to overwater. Feed in early spring. Prune away old faded fronds close to trunk. Remove new plantlets at base of trunk. Not fit for human or animal consumption.
