I knocked off a star because of the bulky size of this clock that couldn’t be sized up in the website photos. Also, the color is teal, not turquoise, so that changed where I had to put it. It was too large, thick and wide to fit on my living room bookshelf (so that tells you about how bulky it is), and that room has a huge clock already anyways. So, it ended up in my office which isn’t necessary and doesn’t really go with the room colors, but it’s a nice clock as far as being a good looking piece and well made. Extrusion moulding is a design technique that involves forcing materials through a mould, the extrusion profile is what gives the material its shape. Piet Hein devised a ring like that for the design of the clock face. A good idea can be surprisingly simple – often the simplest solutions have not yet been invented. This clock could have been designed a century ago, it’s actually a textbook example of LEFF Amsterdam’s philosophy: the idea of keeping things normal and down-to-earth, but still extraordinary. The alarm and snooze function are situated in the back of the Tube to not disrupt the design.
