One of many paintings that Van Gogh made of the countryside surrounding Arles. The Impressionist movement was waning and transitioning to Modernism. Fitting in neither, Vincent traveled to the countryside to be immersed in nature and desired to trailblaze a painting movement, but the art world did not follow him there. It was during this time that his soulful swirling colors and thickly laid brush strokes became a signature of his now beloved art style.
