The Chief Joseph Blanket is named after the leader of the Nez Perce tribe, who was widely admired for protecting his people and speaking the truth, and features a design symbolizing bravery and honor. For over a century, Pendleton has made its heirloom quality blankets right here in the US.

This intricate design celebrates the pioneering spirit of our founder, weaver Thomas L. Kay, who journeyed from England to America and arrived in Oregon in 1863. It is a tribute to the generations of weavers that have continued his legacy of quality and excellence. The original blanket was discovered recently in a 19th-century European mill and included the designer’s notes and calculations, handwritten neatly along the sides. Modern Pendleton designers viewed this historic work of art with reverence and used it as inspiration for Pendleton`s Journey West jacquard design. The pattern underlines the universal appeal of geometric shapes and lines. The hooked images seen inside the large diamonds are common symbols of luck and prosperity.
