I like these curtains very much! My daughter likes it better when she leaves the mesh part untied, but you can do whatever you like, it looks good anyway. These curtains look totally primitive, which is exactly what I wanted. They look fantastic in our bedroom. I will say, they have a liner, but they are definately not "room darkening.
