Large Seated Nude By Amedeo Modigliani

"Large Seated Nude" by Amedeo Modigliani is one of the most iconic works from his celebrated series of nudes, painted during his time in Paris. The model is posed confidently and directly, her body simplified into flowing, elongated forms that reflect Modigliani’s signature style—long neck, stylized curves, and a sense of sculptural solidity. Unlike academic or classical nudes, the painting emphasizes sensuality without idealization: the warm tones, bold contours, and unflinching gaze convey both intimacy and strength. When first exhibited in 1917, Modigliani’s nudes shocked Parisian audiences with their frank eroticism, leading to a police raid on the gallery. Today, Large Seated Nude is celebrated as a defining example of Modigliani’s ability to merge modernist abstraction with timeless sensuality.
