Lord Krishna on completing his education under his teacher Sandipani asked him what he wanted as Guru-Dakshina (a gift given as a token of thanks to one’s teacher). His master then told him about Shankhasur, a demon living inside a massive conch shell who had abducted his son. Krishna rescued Sandipani’s son by battling Shankhasur, defeated him, and kept his hideout, the Shankha for himself. This conch shell was named Panchajanya, one of the four attributes associated with Lord Vishnu.
