Her name is invoked before people learn any new musical instrument or begin to study anything new, hoping that she would help them tide across the learning process smoothly. She, who was brought in to help Brahma bring order into the universe, made herself indispensable to the pantheon. She even helped the gods gain back the somaras urn that had been stolen from them by the celestial beings called Gandharvas. She had sailed into the gardens where they resided and struck beautiful notes on her veena, filling the space with beautiful music. As she predicted, the Gandharvas ask her to teach them her skills and she agrees, granted that they return the urn to the gods.
