A rare, eight-armed roopa of Sri Vishnu is delineated in this exquisite brass statue, which is worshipped in the tradition of Tamil Vaishnava or Alvars as Ashtabhuja Perumal or Attabhuyakaram. This form of Vishnu is revered in the sanctum of the Perumal Temple at Kanchipuram and is associated with a valorous emanation of Vishnu, as a heavenly savior. The icon is placed on an imposing two-level pedestal, beautifully embellished, with Vishnu standing in the firm Sampadasthanaka posture, holding his eight mighty weapons in his eight arms. Smiling gently and infusing a divine aura, Ashtabhuja Perumal assures the devotee of his omnipresent benevolence.
