General George Washington By Joseph Alexandre Ames

"General George Washington" by Joseph Alexandre Ames is a portrayal of Washington that follows the tradition of earlier artists like Gilbert Stuart and Charles Willson Peale, emphasizing Washington’s dignified and resolute character. His style was influenced by the 19th-century academic approach, with a focus on realism and a refined color palette. While not as widely recognized as Stuart’s famous "Athenaeum" portrait, Ames’ depiction contributes to the visual legacy of America’s first president.
