The couple in this brass statue is seated on a boat shaped like a Hamsa or a swan- a bird representative of purity and love. The elongated neck of the bird forms one side of the boat, while on the other side, its feathers create charming folds, held together by a canopy on the top. The elegant body of the swan gives an appropriate asana (pedestal) to Radha and Krishna. Decked in the most appealing jewellery and attire, the pair is resting comfortably, enjoying each other’s company. Radha lovingly holds her beloved Krishna’s right hand, who gently touches her chin with his left hand, wanting to be the only receiver of her loving attention. Both of them create vivid imagery of romance in brass! The flows shown in the uttariya (scarf-like garment worn on the upper body) of Radha and Krishna convey a sense of movement, reminding us of the boat ride that they are relishing.
