Sri Lakshmi, the Hindu deity who bestows the boons of abundance and auspiciousness is popularly known as “Kamala” and “Padma”, both the names used to denote the lotus flower. Goddess Lakshmi’s association with the freshly blossomed lotus flower is as archaic as her first descriptions in the Hindu textual tradition, where she is mentioned to have emerged from the Kshirasagara, the primordial ocean, seated on a red lotus. Besides the legends of her origin, the lotus blossom is connected with Devi Lakshmi as a worldly object to describe her otherworldly beauty. Drawing from the imagery of goddess Lakshmi as the “lady of lotus”, this brass Lakshmi statue showcases the splendor of the divine female energy of Vishnu.
