As per the Hindu texts, Lord Dhanvantari is the physician of gods. He is the supreme scholar of the science of health and cure. Thus, he is also credited as the founding father of Ayurveda, the most ancient medicinal discipline in health. Ayurveda is a very deep and profound science, with over one lakhs composition, also making it the most complex medical system ever existed. The origin of Lord Dhanvantari is equally enchanting and full of symbols as mentioned in the famous Bhagavata Purana. In the famous episode of Samundra Manthan, both Devas and Asuras were churning the Ocean to extract Amrit (nectar) out of it. Finally, it was Lord Dhanvantari who emerged from the ocean with the pot of Amrita in his hand. This Amrita represents the wealth of wellbeing that Lord Dhanvantari carries. If someone walks on the path elucidated by the Lord, health and wellbeing are a natural outcome.
