I wanted to like this but in person its a little lighter in the colors and busier in pattern. I figured in the winter a non breathable fabric would be ok and the velvet wouldn't grab onto cat hair. my cat sleeps with me so I have to vacuum my duvet cover every morning. This bedding is beautiful. I have an oversized mattress and this has enough coverage so that the mattress doesn’t show. I would say it’s medium weight and provides nice warmth. The insert was already in the duvet so I just opened the packge and started decorating. I was skeptical about buying a velvet comforter for year round use but I’m glad I purchased this.
