Got this for my son who gets very hot when sleeping at night. It does have a cooling effect to it. Then, if one area gets warm, he just moves it around and it feels cool again in another spot. Upon opening the cooling blanket was significantly cooler than room temperature, and felt silky and nice. The size fit perfectly over a Queen bed, and the color was a neutral gray. Chunky is certainly a good description for this "throw". It's a monster. First, I couldn't imagine what was being delivered, as it came in a GIANT box....upon opening, I found a much smaller box, and the throw was shrunk wrapped very tightly into a plastic sealed bag. When I opened it , it expanded greatly. I ordered the grey, and it was true to color grey, not too blue or too green, and not dark. The rope knots are very big, and the blanket - think more blanket than throw - is quiet heavy. I love it, don't get me wrong, but be prepared for a BIG item. It's thick, and very nice, not too hot because the knots are loose, so it's airy, but there is a lot to it, so I'm sure it's warm. It is very soft also. I am using it to put at the foot of the bed, it's too large to put on the bench, and I guess in the winter I could put it on the couch for move/sports watching together, but it overwhelms the couch to use as a decorative throw. It's multi use. My husband likes it because he says I always buy throws that are too small and don't cover his feet if he is cold and wants to use one.....this one does that I guarantee you. Good price for what you get. One negative: When I cut the shrink wrap plastic it was packaged in, I could strongly smell a distinct chemical smell. The item itself also smelled very strong of this odor. I put it outside on my screened in porch for a few days to see if that would air it out and it didn't. I would not put that smell on my couch or bed. I needed to take the throw to a commercial laundry to have washed and dried because it is so big and thick my standard LG front loader would not be able to handle it....so although it is washable, I doubt you could wash it in most home units, especially a washer because it would soak up so much water it most likely would knock your washer and dryer tubs off balance. This blanket arrived quickly and it was packaged well. It had a very strong chemical odor when I removed it from the vacuum sealed bag. It's been a couple days and it still has an odor but not as bad. I may need to wash it. It is very soft and I love the striped design. I also love the soft white color. The color is more of an off white but very beautiful and matches my decor. I was surprised with the fabric. It is like a soft sweater fabric that is stretchy. I hope it retains its shape.
