In the 1950s, plastic became a desirable and more attainable alternative to wood toilet seats. Olsonite had a monopoly on all-plastic toilet seats for almost a decade and garnered even more sales as the price of plastic dropped. In order to remain competitive in the toilet seat market, Bemis worked to create their own all-plastic toilet seat and became a fierce competitor to Olsonite. The creation of all-plastic seats opened the door for Bemis Manufacturing Company to begin injection molding products which today is a major part of the Contract Division of the company. Bemis acquired Olsonite in 2005. The brand is primarily found in the wholesale segment. The brand is primarily found in the wholesale segment in the United States and Canada and in the retail segment in Mexico.
