In such a fast-paced world, classic beauty seems gone too soon but the memories live on. At Old Modern Handicrafts, they work hard to bring those memories back to life. Old Modern Handicrafts (OMH) uses the old way of building ship models while integrating modern technology. The traditional plank on frame or plank on bulkhead method is done by hand and followed by our high-tech tools such as laser machines to create beautiful, accurate details that are scaled down in precise proportions from the original model. The old and modern technology work seamlessly together to create a product that will become the center of attention for any home or office. Established in 1999, Old-Modern Handicrafts is a leading factory in manufacturing high-quality wooden model ships. Besides scale models, OMH also makes wooden canoes and kayaks that looks beautiful and also performs well on water. These boats are strip built from Canadian western red cedar and encapsulated in fiberglass. This combination is strong yet completely transparent so that the beauty of the wood will be cherished and protected for generations. Here are some products highlights that lead us to success. • Extensive research through original plans and pictures make our models authentic. • 100% hand built from scratch using “plank on frame” or "plank on bulkhead" construction method • Each model was built by skillful master craftsmen with many intricate details. • Hundreds of hours required to finish a model at museum-quality level such as HMS Victory or USS Constitution. • Made of finest wood like rosewood, western red cedar, mahogany, teak and other exotic wood. • Chrome, brass or cast metal fittings and ornaments constitute the excellence of our models • Each model goes through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop

The San Felipe was one of the most beautiful Spanish ships in the 1600s. Launched in 1690, it had 96 cannons and was the lead ship of the feared Spanish Armada. It was powerful enough to go up against the most formidable ships in the French and British navies. In 1705, the San Felipe and 11 other Spanish ships waged a furious and heroic battle against 35 British ships. After 24 hours of fighting, the San Felipe was captured but was so badly damaged that it could not be salvaged as a prize. It sank with several tons of gold.
This ship is very cool and draws a lot of attention in my “man cave.” It is staged in a case that I also purchased through way fair. Very impressed with my purchase.. Andrew. Roseville, CA. Tue Jul 07 2026

Have you ever wanted to go "up and away" and float away above the world? Hot air balloons that can be propelled through the air rather than simply drifting with the wind are known as thermal airships. There's terrific detail in this "Vintage" hot air balloon model. The balloon is made of metal so it will never deflate. It is handmade and painted in vintage hot air balloon color.
Exactly what I wanted for my entryway. My theme is travel and the different modes one can take to get from A to B. The hot air balloon fits in nicely.. Mary. FL. Thu Aug 27 2020

Titanic named by J.Bruce Ismay, was built in march 1909. In may 1911, she was launched, which was a heavily publicized spectacle. She was 883 feet long (1/6 of a mile), 92 feet wide and weighed 46,328 tons. She was 104 feet tall from keel to bridge, almost 35 feet of which were below the waterline. The Corsair Pirate Ship: The Brigantine had a square-rigged foremast and fore-and-aft sails attached to the main mast, allowing it quick maneuverability while maintaining twice the cargo space of a sloop. It quickly became one of the most popular ships among pirates due to its versatility. On average, a brigantine held as many as 100 pirates and was decked with cannons. Privateers: The piracy in the Caribbean was a result of the relationships between larger international trends within colonies. Due to the massive cost of naval control, private vessels were commissioned for a substantial share of whatever plunders could be captured from enemies. The substantial profits from privateering resulted in noble investors realizing the large return in working with pirates. Buccaneers: The term 'Buccaneer' arrived in the 1630's. The original Buccaneers were colonial fugitives forced to survive on open waters. These naval skills were easily and readily transferred over into piracy, their combat was regarded as ferocious. The buccaneers operated with colonial support from colonies fighting against the Spanish armada until the 1700s where their activities were granted legality. The buccaneers were civilized and peculiar as compared to the pirate stigma. Their pirate crews operated through democracy, and the captain was voted upon. As a leader he had to prove his worth in both democracy and in battle. Plunder was divided into shares depending on the worth of the officers, whether they had greater skills or took greater risks. The end of the classic age of Piracy: Piracy declined with the rise of the military and national armies in Europe. The call for mercenaries dwindled following the end of the 30 years war and national power expanded. As armies were brought under Royal control, privateering was quickly obliterated. Naval missions stretched to cover the destruction of piracy. By the 1720s it was difficult to locate piracy in an of the open seas.

The Queen Mary is considered by many as the pinnacle of British passenger shipbuilding. The canard Line's Star Flagship, Queen Mary, was laid down for construction as the Great depression gripped Europe, rendering circumstances unfeasible for ship building. Thus, the construction was held up from 1931 to 1934. The thousand foot passenger ship was built to trump its French rival to the crown of luxury, the Normandie. One of the most appealing characteristics of the Queen Mary was her great speed. Coupled with great luxury and comfort, this factor earned amazing profits for her owners until the outbreak of the Second World War, which found her in a New York Harbor. After being idle for half a year, the Queen Mary re-entered service as a troopship, traveling unescorted from New York to Sydney. Ferrying troops between the Suez and Australia until the United States decided to take part in the fight, the Germans reportedly offered a quarter million reward for sinking this ridiculously fast passenger boat which their submarines could not keep up with. With its speed and finesse along the waters, the Queen Mary bested any warship afloat and adopted the nickname, ''the Gray Ghost.'' The third largest passenger ship ever to set sail in the North Atlantic seaway, and the largest to survive, the Queen Mary is one of the recent reminders of the artistic and industrial genius that dominated the North Atlantic Ocean for over a century. The Eagle is a three-masted sailing Barque with 21,350 square feet of sail. It is homeported at the CG Academy, New London, Connecticut. It is the only active (operational) commissioned sailing vessel in the U.S. maritime services. (One of five such Training Barques in world. Sister ships include: MIRCEA of Romania, SAGRES II of Portugal, GORCH FOCK of Germany, and TOVARICH of Russia.) The Eagle bears a name that goes back to the early history of the United States oldest continuous seagoing service. The first Eagle was commissioned in 1792, just two years after the formation of the Revenue Marine, the forerunner of todays Coast Guard. Todays Eagle, the seventh in a long line of proud cutters to bear the name, was built in 1936 by the Blohm & Voss Shipyard, Hamburg, Germany, as a training vessel for German Naval Cadets. It was commissioned Horst Wessel and following World War II was taken as a war prize by the United States. On May 15, 1946, the barque was commissioned into U.S. Coast Guard service as the Eagle and sailed from Bremerhaven, Germany to New London, Connecticut. Eagle serves as a seagoing classroom for approximately 175 cadets and instructors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. It is on the decks and rigging of the Eagle that the young men and women of the Academy get their first taste of salt air and life at sea. From this experience they develop a respect for the elements that will be with them throughout their lifetime. They are tested and challenged, often to the limits of their endurance. Working aloft they meet fear and learn to overcome it. The training cadets receive under sail has proven to be an invaluable asset during their subsequent Coast Guard careers. On Eagle, cadets have a chance to practically apply the navigation, engineering and other training they receive in classes at the Academy. As upper-class cadets, they perform the leadership functions normally handled by junior officers. As under-class cadets, they fill positions normally taken by the enlisted crew of the ship, including helm watch at the huge brass and wood wheels used to steer the vessel. Sailing in Eagle, cadets handle more than 20,000 square feet of sail and 5 miles of rigging. Over 200 lines must be coordinated during a major ship maneuver, so cadets must learn the name and function of each line. The ship readily takes to the task for which it was designed. Eagles hull is built of steel, four-tenths of an inch thick. It has two full length steel decks with a platform deck below and a raised forecastle and quarterdeck. The weatherdecks are three-inch-thick teak over steel. When at home, Eagle rests alongside a pier at the Coast Guard Academy on the Thames River. The Academy was originally founded in 1876 with a class of nine students on board the Revenue Cutter Dobbin. In 1932, a permanent Academy was built on land donated by the New London community. Enrollment at the Academy numbers approximately 700 men and women, all of whom sail at one time or another on Americas only active duty square rigger.
This is my first time doing business with Wayfair and I could not be more pleased or satisfied with the experience. The model ship looks even better than how it is displayed on the website. The item is somewhat fragile and I was concerned how it would survive the shipping process. When opening the shipping carton I discovered the packing of the model protected it and instructions are included explaining the best method to unpack the item without damaging it. And my shipment arrived two days early with updates being sent to me periodically. I analyzed several vendors who offer this same item and Wayfair had the best price including the cost of shipping. I have no complaints or concerns to register with Wayfair regarding this order. I am pleased with the item, the price I paid, the shipping of the item and the overall experience of dealing with Wayfair. The ''wooden runabout boat'' we know today did not exist prior to the early part of this century, and, for the most part, ceased to be built shortly after its heyday of construction during the mid-1950s. Today, only small numbers of all-wood runabouts are built. The runabout is characterized by the all-wood construction of its hull (whether it is painted or stained and then varnished, and whether its deck is all-wood as well, or canvas-covered), and its inboard motor.
The boat was beautifully constructed, brings back memories when dad and used to go boating on the Hudson River. Wayfair, yo are m EBAY for the home.... Alan. Las Vegas, NV. Thu May 19 2016

H.M.S. Sovereign of the Seas, launched in 1637, was the most powerfully armed ship in the world in its day. It was originally going to have 90 guns, but King Charles I personally insisted that a ''great ship'' be built for the English Royal Navy, so it went to sea with 102 bronze guns. The vessel was the most extravagantly decorated warship in the Royal Navy, completely adorned from stern to bow with gilded carvings. The ship was later renamed Sovereign and then Royal Sovereign. It was destroyed by fire in 1697 in Chatham.

The Black Pearl, originally Wicked Wench, is a fictional ship in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. The Black Pearl is easily recognized in the screenplay by her distinctive black hull and sails. This is an advantage in more than one way. Not only do the black sails act as an intimidation tactic, but Pearl's crew can put out the deck lamps for added stealth at night. The ship was originally named Wicked Wench before she was ordered burned and sunk by Lord Beckett[citation needed]. It was later raised from the sea floor by Davy Jones after making a pact with Jack Sparrow who rechristened her the Black Pearl. She is said to be ''nigh uncatchable''. Indeed, in the three films she either overtakes or flees all other ships, including the Interceptor (regarded as the fastest ship in the Caribbean) and the Flying Dutchman (which is actually faster against the wind). Her speed is derived from the large amount of sails she carries. She is noted in At Worlds End as being ''The only ship as what (which) can outrun the Flying Dutchman.'' The Black Pearl is one of the locations that can be visited in the Port Royal world of Kingdom Hearts II.

The U.S.S. Constitution, a three-mast frigate, is the world's oldest commissioned warship. Built primarily with dense southern live oak, its hull was 21 inches thick in an era when 18 inches was common. Paul Revere forged the copper spikes and bolts that held the planks in place. The 204-foot-long ship was first put to sea in 1798 and its most famous era of naval warfare was the War of 1812 against Britain, when it captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five warships, including the H.M.S. Guerriere. It was during the ferocious battle with the Guerriere that British seamen, astonished at how their cannonballs were bouncing off the Constitution's hull, cried out, 'Sir, Her sides are made from Iron!' Hence, the nickname, 'Old Ironsides''. The Constitution today is a national landmark and is docked in Boston.

HMS Beagle was a Cherokee-class 10-gun brig-sloop of the Royal Navy. She was launched on 11 May 1820 from the Woolwich Dockyard on the River Thames, at a cost of £7,803. In July of that year she took part in a fleet review celebrating the coronation of King George IV of the United Kingdom in which she was the first ship to sail under the new London Bridge. After that there was no immediate need for Beagle so she '' lay in ordinary,'' moored afloat but without masts or rigging. She was then adapted as a survey barque and took part in three expeditions. On the second survey voyage the young naturalist Charles Darwin was on board, and his work would eventually make the Beagle one of the most famous ships in history.

The Staten Island Ferry provides 20 million people a year (60,000 passengers a day not including weekend days) with ferry service between St. George on Staten Island and Whitehall Street in lower Manhattan. The ferry is the only non-vehicular mode of transportation between Staten Island and Manhattan. NYC DOT operates and maintains the nine vessel fleet as well as the St. George Ferry Terminal on Staten Island, Whitehall Ferry Terminal in Manhattan, the City Island and Hart Island Facilities, The Battery Maritime Building and all floating dock building equipment. The Staten Island Ferry is run by the City of New York for one pragmatic reason: To transport Staten Islanders to and from Manhattan. Yet, the 5 mile, 25 minute ride also provides a majestic view of New York Harbor and a no-hassle, even romantic, boat ride, for free! One guide book calls it ''One of the world's greatest (and shortest) water voyages.'' From the deck of the ferry you will have a perfect view of The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You'll see the skyscrapers and bridges of Lower Manhattan receding as you pull away and coming into focus again as you return. A typical weekday schedule involves the use of five boats to transport approximately 60,000 passengers daily (109 daily trips). During the day, between rush hours, boats are regularly fueled and maintenance work is performed. Terminals are cleaned around the clock and routine terminal maintenance is performed on the day shift. On weekends, three boats are used (75 trips each Saturday and 68 trips each Sunday). Over 35,000 trips are made annually.
