The pieces are very light, weighing about 9 to 17 ounces each, which enables them to be easily moved by young children. Make them heavier by simply drilling a hole at the bottom of each piece, filling it with fine sand, and seal with adhesive. These pieces are designed to withstand the most extreme weather conditions. We have set in the heat of the Middle East and the cold of the Rocky Mountains. The hard plastic chessboard is for customers looking for a more permanent installation.
