The garlic vase silhouette, named for the bulbed swelling at its neck, is one of the most recognizable shapes in Chinese ceramics, and Legend of Asia renders it here in classic blue white cobalt. A songbird settles among flowering branches, every element hand painted freehand so the bird motif differs slightly from piece to piece. Standing 13 in H, the porcelain vase suits a dining table, entry chest or open bookcase, and it functions equally well as a flower vase for fresh stems or an accent vase left empty as sculpture. High-fire porcelain seals the body against water and weather, so the blue vase can move outdoors under cover. Hand shaping brings minor variation in form and finish, the mark of real asian decor and a natural anchor for chinoiserie decor styling.
