Block is an alarm clock with a small but strong appearance. A fusion of aesthetics and functionality, and a compromise between delicacy and robustness. The design is simple, but with a lot of surprising details. At night the fluorescent hands will become visible and the whole dial can be lit up by pushing the snooze button on top.

There is everything to love about this clock. It looks deceptively simple but does everything I expect of an alarm clock. Small enough to fit most anywhere but the dial is large and easy to read. Hands light up in the dark and with a touch of the top button, the dial lights up but comes on "low" and gradually becomes bright and fades, all in a few seconds but enough time to read the dial well. It's lightweight. Does not have a ticking sound at all. Takes an AA battery. The back comes off easily. No prying! Alarm and time set dials work well and are easy to reach. Snooze button on top. My only complaint would be that the alarm hand is the same color as the dial and therefore somewhat difficult to see but this is minor. Keeps time very precisely.. Cynthia. Scio, OH. Sun Jul 29 2018

The design of the base clock was inspired by a visual language the designers developed by gathering industrial production archetypes. They took industrially determined shapes and details and used these characteristics to create a new shape. Since the shape is unique yet recognizable, the design is open to interpretation. Everyone sees something else, which, to Kranen/Gille, is the definition of a kind design. The base clock is handmade by Cor Unum, a ceramic art centre based in the Netherlands.

When Piet Hein Eek started his Tube series for LEFF amsterdam, his starting point for the Tube Clock’s dial was an extrusion ring. Extrusion moulding is a design technique that involves forcing materials through a mould, the extrusion profile is what gives the material its shape. Piet Hein devised a ring like that for the design of the clock face. A good idea can be surprisingly simple – often the simplest solutions have not yet been invented. This clock could have been designed a century ago, it’s actually a textbook example of LEFF Amsterdam’s philosophy: the idea of keeping things normal and down-to-earth, but still extraordinary. The alarm and snooze function are situated in the back of the Tube to not disrupt the design.

Really cool looking clock with a serious design DEFECT. Impossible to remove battery cover in order to insert battery. It's plastic and the slot for twisting cover off strips on the first try to open it. Useless item. Returned.. Rita M. US. Wed Mar 27 2024
