I originally bought this shelf to use in the bathroom but it projects pretty far from the wall and I didnt want to bump onto it. Fortunately we had the perfect area for it- above a bench in the entryway. It has a lot of area to store things on top of the deep shelf (hats, gloves, etc.) and hooks for jackets, purses, umbrellas. These are very well packed on arrival. They are extremely light in weight, which implies a cheap wood construction. They will need to be used with a coaster as the finish is a spray on. They are deceptively pretty and a bit on the elegant side. NOT recommended for homes with children, this finish will chip off. The brown wood town is very pretty.
