These were exactly what our dated basement ceiling needed. Our space looks amazing and so fresh now! We painted our existing ceiling grid and then installed the new tiles in black. Overall, the tiles showed up in good condition. Some corners where a little damaged, but you just pick out the good ones for full tiles and use the damaged ones for the edges, where you have to cut them. A few tips from our experience: - Open all tiles and sort by the good full tiles and the slightly damaged ones for the cut pile. - Wear gloves when handling. the black will come off on your hands (washes off), but your skin oils may leave marks on the tiles so best to wear gloves. - I tried wiping tiles off with a damp clothe but it left subtle marks, so I would NOT suggest this. I would suggest using dry cloth first to clear off dust marks. I have not done it yet, but I plan to get paint to match and do some touch up.
