• About Oriental Weavers/Sphinx
Who is Sphinx? Easily described as a landmark year in world events, 1991 saw the end of the Soviet Union, the first free elections in history for Taiwan, and the launch of the Hubble space telescope. Terminator 2 was tops at the box office and America witnessed one of the most riveting Super Bowls of all time. The year 1991 was also a landmark occasion for Oriental Weavers. With the introduction of the Sphinx Division, Oriental Weavers opened up a whole new category in the American rug market bringing decorative rugs to the United States.
But who is Sphinx? Quite simply, Sphinx is the area rug market's leader in color, style, and quality. Designed around today's lifestyle, Sphinx area rugs set trends. Offering only the finest materials combined with the highest construction standards in the industry, the name Sphinx has come to be synonymous with quality and value. Sphinx rugs can be kept and enjoyed for years, but are affordable enough to change as often as consumers redecorate.
The Orientals Group, the parent organization of Sphinx, is a multinational organization based in Cairo, Egypt and incorporates several companies dedicated to the production of woven rugs and carpeting. Oriental Weavers, the flagship of the Orientals Group, is one of the biggest names in rugs today, and now, for over a decade, the Sphinx Division of Oriental Weavers brings the advantages of this vertically integrated corporation to the American consumer.
