Ensures that the washer lid is closed before the wash cycle or spin cycle is allowed to begin. The washer will not start unless it knows that the lid is locked. The lock can become broken, meaning that the lid can be opened while the washer is operational. Your lid lock might have to be replaced if the washer will not start or the washer lid can open during operation. Washer lid locks are a safety device and should never be bypassed. This safety feature was mandated on new washing machines starting in 2015. It is typically engaged during the filling cycle or when the washer is spinning higher than 50 rpm. Whenever working on any appliance be sure that the power has been disconnected.
