The Tilly-Mae Collection

This beautiful Tilly-Mae 'Teacher's Wife' Sculpture represents sculptures given to the wife of a local teacher in gratitude for her support. Elegant and colorful, the figure is named Mata Mallam, which means "wife" in the language of the Hausa people from northern Ghana.

Master woodworker Tilly-Mae carves this set of antique style combs. Originating from the Ashanti region of Ghana, they bear the name Nyansa , meaning "wisdom" and symbolize the type of combs used by the Ashanti long ago. The face of an elderly person is featured, highlighted with intriguing metal plates embossed with African motifs.

Hand-carved by Tilly-Mae, narrow eyes are far seeing, and the countenance is serious. Its smooth, wide forehead boasts plates of embossed brass, and subtle color distinguishes this beautiful mask. Named Tagbagya (flat headed) in Ghana's Ewe language, it depicts a person of brilliance, thus anyone who excels academically may be given this mask as an award.

An intricate headdress crowns this regal countenance while embossed brass adorns the forehead and cheeks. Tilly-Mae depicts an Odehyi, or royal personage from Ghana's Akan people. Subtle color enhances its bold beauty.

I am absolutely returning this item. It is not as described or how it looked in the pics. It is small, it looks cheap, and it’s not as attractive as displayed....& this review is coming from someone who collects African masks & African art....a huge let down.. Nilda. Upland, CA. Sun Sep 09 2018
