Sculpted by hand of native African rubberwood, this face depicts a woman of youthful beauty. Long lashes frame demure eyes and applications of aluminum create intricate patterns on her cheeks and forehead. "Among the Hausa people of Nigeria, such masks are given to a woman by a man as a wedding proposal," says artisan Dougie. "If she does not return the mask, it means the proposal as been accepted." Named Shawa – Hausa for "Lover's Beauty" – the mask is rubbed with white clay for an aged effect.

Rays of sun adorn this asomdwoe mask in an original design by Dougie. Meaning "peace" in the Akan language, the African rubber wood mask is carved by hand featuring ornate aluminum on the nose. Dazzling beadwork in red, black, green, white, yellow and blue complement the painted details of this wonderful mask.

Ghana's Dougie creates the original design of this mask as a symbol of gratitude. Named "Na Gode" ? the Hausa term for "Thank you" ? the mask is carved by hand from sese wood with elaborate detail. The artisan adorns it with colorful glass beads on the forehead and cheeks, as well as with embossed brass over the nose. The artisan has designed the mask to either hang on the wall, or be displayed on a shelf top.

Carved by hand, this exquisite mask by Dougie features gleaming brass and colorful beads. "Such masks are used by men of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria to express how they feel about a woman," he explains. "A husband may also give such a mask to his wife to affirm how beautiful she is to him." The artisan names the mask Inido,"Beautiful" in the Igbo language.
