The Cailynn Collection

Ornate repoussé covers the forehead and smooth cheeks of an adolescent girl, beautifully depicted in a sese wood mask. Perched on the head, a bird reaches a slender beak to caress the girl's nose. Designed by Cailynn, it is named Onuma,Akan for "Bird." A gift presented to Akan women in eastern Ghana during a girl's puberty rites, it affirms the suitor's commitment during courtship. "Apart from its decorative purposes, this piece gives the possessor an assurance of a blissful courtship leading to marriage," the artisan affirms.

The art piece was well packaged and protected. Love the intricate details of the artwork. Though mine came with a few imperfections compared with the image advertised on Wayfair, I'm happy to know this product was individually crafted by an artisan.. Ben. Westland, MI. Tue Nov 26 2019

This wonderfully romantic sculpture from Ghana's Cailynn features a woman being lifted in her lover's arms. The joy of their union is palpable. The artisan names the piece ahiavivi, which means "joy of lovers" in the dialect spoken by the Anlo tribe in the Volta region of Ghana.

With eyes closed, this beautiful visage is covered with ornate aluminum repoussé. It is a traditional mask used in funeral rites by the chief priest of the Yiku clan of Ghana's Volta Region. The ceremony expels the souls of the recently dead. "The almost invisible mouth makes it sacred because of the silence during funerals," designer Cailynn explains. "Its possession assures protection while averting misfortune."
