Beautiful, solid, and a pleasure to play on This marble chess set is even nicer in person than in the photos. The board is heavy and sits firmly on the table, and the polished marble has a natural veining that makes it look like a real piece of décor. It stays out on our coffee table even when no one is playing. The pieces are well carved and easy to tell apart, with a good weight that makes moving them satisfying. The felt on the bottoms keeps them from scratching the board and makes them glide smoothly. The two colors contrast well, so it’s easy to read the position during a game. It arrived well packed, with every piece protected and nothing chipped. The one thing to know is that marble is heavy and can chip if a piece is dropped, so it isn’t the best choice for young kids. For adults or as a gift, though, it’s excellent. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants a chess set that’s as nice to look at as it is to play on.
