Update a week later: The faint smell went away quickly and this rug is so far very pleasing for such a thin rug. My cats love that it is plusher and I love that it is easy to wipe clean.
This rug was folded up into a square and vacuum sealed to fit in a fairly small box. I ordered the 9x12 size. It is so magical to open a product that is vacuum sealed and have it grow in size. Much like those little foam toys we used to get as kids that you would add water to and end up with a dinosaur or something else. The rug has a bit of an odor, but it is not overwhelming and quickly went away. The rug opens up beautifully and lays down flat without having to do anything. I like that although it is not super thick, there is still some padding and a non slip surface. It absolutely does not move when you walk on it. My cats seem to think that it is an improvement over the last rug we had in our living room. I was pleased that the rug looks lighter in color and matches my drapes perfectly.
