Love this coffee table! We got it unfinished and stained it a nice American Walnut color. Great build quality, perfect size and little to no acid damage to the grain. For the staining, we sanded it down with 220, and mild acid damaged areas with 180 (these become visible when stained) and wiped on the stain. We then applied two coats of polyurethane with a foam brush, sanding down lightly with 320 between coats and dipping the foam brush in mineral spirit before applying polyurethane to keep the coats thin. Be sure to let the coat dry for at least 24 hours before doing anything to it. Patience was key through this process. The wood took the stain very well. Worked like a charm!. Sanjana. Sunnyvale, CA.
