This mask of striking zoopomorphic features replicates those worn by the Bemba people of Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo. They are also known as Babemba, meaning "People of the Lake" and it was worn by their sorcerers and healers for their rites of magic and healing. This wall mask is carved by hand of seasoned sese wood featuring animal horns and ears and such a wide opened mask it seems to split the mask in two.

This artisan designs an original mask that embodies the concept of dzekpi or "beauty," in the language of Ghana's Ewe people. Predominately black, the mask's oval shape narrows at the bottom to form a chin. Aluminum plates, masterfully embossed by hand, adorn the cheeks and forehead. Quarto finishes this stunning mask with painted details.

This artisan faithfully replicates the fertility mask of the Baule people of Cote d'Ivoire. He carves the sese wood mask by hand with female features including a comb in her hair and inverted triangles on the cheeks. The mask is worn during special festivities for a good harvest.

With lowered lids, a beautiful woman reveals innate strength and dignity. Richly textured repoussé adorns the forehead and cheeks, and an intriguing brown and yellow motif suggests a head kerchief. This hand-crafted mask is named Dekaworwor, which means "togetherness in the Ewe language of Ghana.

This artisan recreates a Tigari mask that was uncovered in Ghana in 1890. Of Moshie origin, a Tigari was a person endowed with special powers. This person could be a man or a woman and could heal, predict the future, indicate the best place for fishing and hunting, and even influence the outcome of the war. The mask is hand-carved from sese wood and given a subtly antiqued finish.

This exquisite mask represents a bride. Gleaming brass, aluminum and colorful beads adorn the handsome piece. "Such masks are used during wedding ceremonies by the Bemba tribes from Zambia," he explains. "The mask is presented to a young woman along with gifts for her family. When she is presented to the bridegroom's family, she puts on this mask to show that her family accepts her future husband."
