The Mantel looks like it does in the picture. I have a newly built house and I wanted to upgrade the fireplace from a builders grade to this beautiful mantel . It looks very nice. It really helped enhanced the look for my living room. There was a slight problem with some of the materials being damage(the surrounding pieces that goes with the mantel), although the package was delivered by a white glove carrier crew. Beautiful. I ordered in blonde. The only issue is it gets hot, even mounted 12" above my gas fireplace with the flame on low, and the items sitting on top of the mantel get warm as well.
