The top is a heavy board that is edge and finger joint glued together and finished in veneer. The legs are also fingerjointed boards. It generally looks nice, but the finish is quite sloppy. there are some rough spots where it was not thoroughly sanded too. I purchased this table because it was on sale. The desk looks lovely, but it is cheaply made. It requires 2 people to put together. Any wrong tilt or movement when attaching pieces together causes the finish to crack. Once we unboxed, we knew cracking would be a risk and laid pieces on soft flooring and took our time and still have several cracks. You have to be very careful. It takes HOURS to put together - very tedious. While we know that's the way of the world today, we expected it to be more durable. For the cost, quality and hassle, I would not purchase it again..
