The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. This trunk is the perfect coffee table piece! I’m awaiting two leather club chairs, so I’m not quite finished in the area. But I just moved in and do not have enough storage. This held 15 years worth of photo albums. And still is able to shift location with the handles. Not flimsy at all.
