This is likely not what many people are using this skate for, but were doing it to help socialize our wonderful new dog with my two cats, one of them is not very dog savvy. Hinges are strong and work well, they do have a little play in them so even if you level the doorgate they are attached to perfectly, expect a small bit of sag once tension goes on them. Absolutely perfect for my needs. We now own 5 of these gates which we use to keep our dog restricted to certain areas of the house. The features we like best are that you can install it on either side of the doorway, the gate swings both ways, and you can install it above the floor, if desired. This works out perfectly for our cats, who are able to slip under the gate (mounted 6 inches above the floor). The dogs are not able to follow. Auto-close feature It closes on its own perfectly, which is a massive lifesaver when youre busy or rushing through. Fantastic value It feels incredibly solid and well-made, especially given the price point. For comparison, our other gate (which weve had for a long time and still use for our puppy elsewhere) was easily 2 to 3 times more expensive than this one, yet it doesnt even have an auto-close feature. I do love the design of this gate. It’s so tall that my kitties can’t go over, around, through, or under. I even like the way it opens to let me go through, without having to negotiate a bottom rail to trip on. It locks securely and was easily assembled and carefully packed. It’s attractive and exceptionally useful. My only concerns: My doorway was not true. It apparently is a few millimeters wider near the top than bottom, so the center doesn’t meet the same way in the top as bottom. This is not the fault of the gate, so I did not deduct a star. My other concern is that there’s a lot of plastic parts. I wish all the components were made of metal.
