The lamp base is heavier than anticipated. It is straight as an arrow, extremely well-crafted and it looks great in our den. The shade looks better than the website photo. A bonus is that the lamp will accommodate up to a 150 W bulb and, best of all, the switch is a rheostat to dim or brighten the illumination for taste, need or mood.
