To release the petrol smell you need to walk on the product or twist it to pop the interior air pockets that are filled with the unpleasant odor . You can also leave in the sun but it really needs to be squished several times to break those bubbles . The chair I should've ordered months ago, but worth the wait (got it on sale)! Easy to put together. I can lower it while sitting, but to raise it, I do have to stand. I like the overall comfort of the chair.
