I wish furniture manufacturers would stop to consider that not every piece of furniture is going to be put against a wall, so it would be nice to have a decent backing. I originally bought this shelf to use in the bathroom but it projects pretty far from the wall and I didnt want to bump onto it. Fortunately we had the perfect area for it- above a bench in the entryway. It has a lot of area to store things on top of the deep shelf (hats, gloves, etc.) and hooks for jackets, purses, umbrellas. These shelves are solid, sturdy and true to the color you see online. I can’t speak to how easy they are to install, because we are waiting for the room to be painted before we install them.
