This cat tree is sturdy! It was easy to assemble, besides initially lining up the base to the first post. I used the included wrench to "poke through" the holes to help line them up. It is a beautiful kitty tree. It is indeed not 'paded' at the top (besides rim), but seems soft enough for my kitty. My cat is too big to get on by himself (not as much space between basket bed and top of tree), but he doesn't mind, and spends hours on it after I place him there, lol.
