This is a beautiful desk and solid. Followed the directions page by page and had no issues. Took my time, had the football game on TV and poured myself a cocktail during the build. Depending on how fast you work depends on how much time it will take to assemble. Took me an evening and the next morning to complete but I took my time with no stress. The two compartments on the top lift up to open but sadly they do not lock in place to remain open, which could be a little inconvenient but there is a slow close on it so it does not slam closed. **TIP** there is a piece that covers the top so you can possibly sit items up there that is probably some type of mdf board and it probably blends in with the packaging and mine was thrown out, so just be mindful and ask for that piece.
