Nightmare to Put Together but Sturdy from New York, NY on 09/27/2014 – Verified Buyer
I put this together by myself and nearly tossed the whole thing out in frustration. I painted all the components white first and followed the directions to build the outside frame first. I was instructed to keep the screws loose but it was so wobbly that I couldn't get the inside slats to go in. So I tightened the screws on the outside frame first and then could barely get the diagonals to go in. I had to hammer the slats in which took forever and caused some of them to go in too deep. Definitely don't try to do it alone, even if you're handy like I am. The good part is that, when attached with brackets to the wall, it is very sturdy. I have very space filled in with bottles and no worries about the whole thing coming tumbling down. Part of the reason I bought this wine rack is because I wanted white and I knew I could paint this raw wood.

You cannot build it for this price from Santa Barbara, CA on 03/14/2011
I'm a handyman and @ [$] I thought I could build this rack for less. Then I started considering my time and aggravation, etc., so I decided to buy this unit instead. What a good decision! [if I do say so, myself]. To all those other do-it-yourselfers out there: you can't build this as well for the same money. Screw holes are pre-drilled; plank ends are routed; the wood material is appropriate for the expected load.I do have a couple of construction quibbles. 1] There are wood cleats at the diagonal ends that are just stapled in place. That probably is sufficient because they're internally supported by the diagonal shelves, but I screwed 'em in anyway. 2] The top, bottom & middle horizontal planks are each pre-drilled for 3 screws but only 2 are provided. I also built a recessed pedestal of 1"x3" fir to keep the bottles off the floor but it's not necessary [see pic].The instructions are clear, assembly is simple and the pieces fit together easily. The wood is a stark natural white and I stained mine with MinWax Wood Finish Golden Oak 210B to give it a richer look but not too dark [see pics showing before/after and final built].I installed my bin in a closet with other wine bins and storage shelves but I think the final product looks good enough to be a piece of furniture you can live with. Securing the unit to the wall is a must and you might consider additional L-brackets near the base and installing the top ones [provided] inside the box [not above the box as instructed] just to hide them.I'm very happy with the increased storage capacity this rack gives me and the style of old world, time-tested diamond bins.

A bit flimsy from Frederick, MD on 03/10/2014 – Verified Buyer
This is a bit flimsy. I didn't feel confident until my husband added more screw that it would be sturdy enough to hold all the wine bottles.

Inexpensive wine storage from Colorado on 02/02/2009 – Verified Buyer
This is a no-frills, but sturdy wine rack that my husband assembled with the help of my 6 yr old girl. I wanted to stain it before assembly, but didn't get a chance. We just began making our own wine and this gives a lot of wine storage in a small space. Rustic beauty??? eh... whatever, but it holds a lot of wine for the price & space.
